Baby Brody : Week 5

This has been Matt and I's first week with absolutely no company including my Mom (we are currently living at my Moms house.)  Last Thursday night when Brody turned 4 weeks old, I broke out our Moms on Call book (which I LOVE) and started reading little bits of it to Matt.  We decided we were ready to start putting the little man on a routine and start having him sleep in his crib at night in his own room.  I read through a few sections of the book that helped answer some questions for both Matt and I...exciting questions such as poop, feedings and sleeping.  We decided that night was going to be the first night we put him in the crib.  We did great and so did he.  He woke up only once to feed around 330am and then didn't wake again until 7am.

This week has been trial and error for me as I am home with him all day.  We have been working on an eat, play, sleep schedule and it has gone pretty well, but not perfect.  I wouldn't expect perfect at all anyway.

He completely amazed us with this though...His second and third night in the crib, he slept COMPLETELY through the night.  Not a peep.  Over 10 hours straight both nights.  We were flabbergasted.  I don't know what made him do this.  I'm still trying to figure it out because now for the last 3 nights he is back to waking up around 3 or 4am to feed.

I think it has to do with how much he is eating at his last feeding around 830pm.  He seems to be really hungry at his dinner feeding at 530pm and for those next couple of hours, but then less hungry at the final feeding and more sleepy.  So a lot of times he just falls asleep on the boob.  I need to work on really keeping him awake and make sure he eats enough, so he has a full belly to last him through the night.  I have definitely found that my milk supply gets lower and lower as the day goes on.  Its good in the mornings and thats when I make sure to pump after I breastfeed, but is lower by evening time.

Anyway, its a work in progress; but we've had a great week together just me and him!  Here's a few photos from our week.

watching dad out on the pier

me sending dad pics at work telling him we are fattening this guy up!

I see more meat on those thighs

we are getting lots more smiles this week! they seem to be more intentional too! i love them.

We also went to visit our friend Courtney and soon-to-be girlfriend, Amelia Kate, and helped her pack her hospital bag for deliver day coming up!

sneak peek at our photo shoot with Rae Leytham...we can't wait to see the rest of the photos

And a peek into our nursery at grandma's house...I plan to show some more pictures tomorrow!

Lastly, a short video of my little man.  This was me trying to get him to smile!
