Thoughts for Thursday | Fall To-Do List

Happy September, Friends!

The kids head back to school next week and I've had a growing to-do list that I hope to accomplish when they are both out of the house for a few hours, three times a week.  I have always had help during the week since Brody was born, but it has been at our house.  There is something so exciting at the thought of having a quiet house a few mornings a week to try and accomplish 1000+ tasks.

1. Madelyn's Baby Book -
I'm so behind. I need to organize photos and fill in her monthly updates from the blog plus some photos and stats.
2. Brody's Big Boy Book -
Same as above.  I've done a decent job with his stuff, but need to update.
3. Sell My Clothes -
I've had a stack of clothes that I have been wanting to put up for sale on the blog or on instagram for forever now.  Hopefully in September, I will get my act together.
4. Sell Baby Clothes -
I don't have a lot of baby clothes to sell, but I wouldn't mind selling some.  I hand down clothes to my nephew and we may have another baby, but it would be nice to sell a few things to have some money to buy more :)
5. Try New Recipes-
I have been in a cooking rut lately.  I haven't really tried new recipes and I've just been lazy about it.  The summer is so easy to just throw a piece of meat on the grill and some veggies and call it a day. So I'm hoping to do better at meal planning and prepare more.
6. Organize Photos on Computer / Delete Extras / Back everything Up-
I have SOOOOO many photos on my computer it's ridiculous.  Once kids come, you have 100x pictures of the exact same moment trying to get the perfect picture.  I would really like to delete a lot of excess photos and organize what I have.  It's also been way too long since I've done a backup and would like to do that!
7. Make Family Photo book for 2015-2016 with Shutterfly-
I've been pretty good about making photo books ever since college.  I love them.  I use to scrapbook, but now I use digital books from Shutterfly.  They are so fun to look back on and great to do for family trips. I am caught up until Madelyn was born and that's as far as I have gotten.  I would also love a photo book from our trip to Rosemary Beach this summer.
8. Organize the Office-
I really love having a small space to get worked done, but I can't stand that it's a constant mess.  I've had an Apple desktop computer packed away for years now, that I'm dying to unbox and put on my desk.  The problem is that I have to clear and organize the desk first.  Hoping to get to that this Fall too.
9. Compile a Family Video starting when Brody was Born-
Am I like the rest of you where we have all these tiny clips of videos between our phones and our computers and we've done absolutely nothing with them??  I'm hoping to to figure out a way to compile all my videos since the kids were born and make a cool video with it.
10. Blog Makeover-
I've had a vision in my head for awhile now of what I want my blog to look like, but I haven't put the time or money into yet to do it.  I've talked to a few companies now that can help me and I need to just bite the bullet and get it done!

What are you hoping to accomplish this Fall???

House Tour | Office turned Play Room

I'm still in Miami, so I don't have a weekend recap for you yet; but I've been meaning to share this post with you guys for awhile.  I shared this room last year when it was considered Matt and I's office!   The room has evolved quite a bit since then, as we now have an over abundance of toys that needed a home!! I was tired of all the toys filling up our family room space, so I thought I could make this room a little more functional.

The room has now turned into an office/playroom combination.  I'm almost shameful to share these pretty pictures with you guys that my friend, Tyler, took this past Fall; because the room actually looks pretty and not too cluttered.  The truth is that since Christmas it's a total mess!! I made sure to show you a "real life" photo below too so you know that this is not the way the room looks 99.9% of the time :)

This is the closet in the room.  During my "nesting" phase while I was pregnant with Madelyn, I attacked this closet to try and organize and clean it out.  It looks pretty good in the picture, but it's already a mess again after the holidays.  We keep all of our gift bags and wrapping paper supplies in here as well as lots of office supplies and arts and craft stuff.

Thoughts for Thursday | How to Organize your Gmail Box

I finally got so sick and tired of seeing 4,867+ unread emails in my Gmail account, that I decided to do something about it.  My email account got so far out of control that I just didn't even know where to begin.  I knew that I received far too many promotional email's, but I didn't want to just get rid of some of the ones that I actually cared about.   I never made a separate email account for my blog, so everything goes to my personal email.  It was becoming out.of.control.

I did what any twenty first century kid would do and I googled how to organize my gmail box.  I found a few great tips that have changed my world and I had to share with you.

Enter | Unroll Me

Go sign up now!  It scans your entire inbox and tells you how many "junk emails or subsciptions" that you have.  As you can see below, I had over 250!! That hideous.

In this screen shot, you can see the entire list of all your subscriptions and click "unsubscribe" to get rid of them forever or the "add to rollup" button.  The Add to Rollup is great.  This is the button I used for all subscriptions that I still wanted to be able to glance at for special promotions, but didn't need a million emails from.  Once you set up your Roll-Up, you can set it up to receive one Roll-up email per day or even per week.  I like getting mine each morning to take a scan of.

This screen shot shows you what my roll up each day looks like.   They have basically taken 20-30 emails and rolled them up into one for me and now I can scroll through and take a look at the promo shots from each company.  How awesome does that look???  I can't even tell you guys how many emails this has saved me!  It really is the coolest feature.

GMAIL Labels
This post gives a really nice way of organizing your inbox with labels as well.  I haven't followed his tutorial exactly yet even though I may eventually.  Right now, I have a "Home of Malones" label that makes it easy for me to see all the comments I receive and hope to respond to in a timely fashion.

Please tell me what you do to organize your inbox???  What am I missing?  Do you have a system?

Thoughts for Thursday | Organization

Hello friends and welcome to another week of Thoughts for Thursday.  Things are fairly random today, but you will see consistency regarding "organizing."  For some reason I have gotten a major itch to get organized around here (and no, I'm not "nesting").  I don't know if it has anything to do with the holiday's coming or that we are coming up on our one year anniversary in the house and I still feel unsettled at times.  Anyway, I'm ready to do something about it.  Here's a list of a few things I hope to conquer:

+ Photo Storage-  This is so hard.  I want to come up with a system.  I'm a huge fan of photo books and I'm always rushing to make some for Christmas gifts, but I'm also interested in printing photos to put in an old fashion family album.  I want to organize some of my old printed photos as week.  I came across these two options for storage:  Photo Storage Carrier and Stockholm Photo Boxes.  Does anyone use either of these?

+ Wrapping Paper Storage - I actually have this awesome Gift Wrap Work Station which I really love, but I had an overflow of recycled gift bags that I needed to sort through.  Between baby showers, birthdays, and Christmas last year; I had about 30 gift bags that I didn't even really know I had.  They were folded up in an old plastic bag high up in our office closet.  I took them down, sorted them by occasion, and hung them on hangers so I can now have a clear view of my inventory.  I sorted through my tissue paper as well and put it in my gift wrap work station.

+ Ikea Expedit Office Organization - This is still a work in progress. I have some really cute boxes to store things in, but I haven't sat down and sorted and labeled.  I need to label each box so that I know what's in them.  The "styling" portion of this is still not quite there either.  I keep promising that I will finally be doing an office tour, but the truth is that I keep junking up the office with crap and still am not pleased with the space.  Maybe I will finish it up this weekend...

+ Garage Organization - My husband has made huge strides in getting our garage looking pretty and organized.  Of course a lot of the stuff in their is his tools and stuff, but there is also some of our holiday decor, beach toys and chairs and any other sports equipment, etc. I had been begging my hubby to utilize this old Elfa Standalone Closet that I had from several houses ago when I had no closet.  It wasn't cheap at all and it's just been boxed up for a few years, but I thought it could make the perfect organizer in our garage and I was right!!! What does your garage look like?? Do you like to keep it organized?

Sorry this is what it looks like as a closet, but I promise to take a picture of it in our garage now!

+ Holiday Decor Organization - In years past, I have basically just stored all of our holiday decor in these color coordinated containers from Target.  It's great because they allow you to mix and match the lids, so for Halloween I have black and orange containers and Mardi Gras I have purple and green, etc.  It makes it really easy for me to spot the boxes for each season.  This year, I was really hoping to take it a step further.  I remembered this great article from Jen a few years back and I'm hoping to replicate it.  Honestly, I try to pick up my decorations during the after holiday sales and many times I forget that I have the decor because I didn't have it the previous year.  Hopefully this will save me some time and sanity!

How do you store your holiday decor??

I truly love an organized home and space but there is no doubt it can be extremely time consuming.  I always have great intentions and ideas for organizing, but my follow through is not always great.  Are you a good organizer?  What is your favorite space to keep organized?

I hope you enjoyed my thoughts today on an organized home.  What's on your mind today?  We'd love to hear.
