Thoughts for Thursday : Throwback Edition

I've read a few comments recently about people asking for "throwback posts." I thought it would be fun to do a Throwback Thursday today for my thoughts for Thursday and take you back to my glory days :)  I had to go way back in the archives for some of these.  The post would be way too long if I included everything, so I'm giving you a taste of what I did in high school and bringing you through my years at University of Florida.

{Signing my senior year of high school to play soccer at UF}

To sum up my childhood and high school years briefly, I will just say that I was a very avid soccer player.  It honestly seems like such a distant past to me that it's almost odd for me to reflect on.  I'm not a bragger, my Dad always loved to do that for me, but I was a very successful soccer player in my day.  I played on some amazing soccer teams with amazing girls and was on an extremely successful high school team.  We won the state title my freshman and sophomore year and came in second my junior and senior year.  We were good.  I was named the top player in the whole state of Florida as a sophomore in high school.  That was a big year for me.  The next year, I tore my ACL playing soccer and things were never quite the same.  Regardless, I signed at the University of Florida to play on their woman's soccer team.  It was exciting and nerve-wracking.

Needless to say, I decided that was WAY TOO MUCH WORK.  I wanted to enjoy college like a normal student and not practice 3 times a day and spend every weekend playing soccer games.  I wanted to go to football games and travel and party!  So that's what I did.  I quit the soccer team, enjoyed my freshman year like a normal student and then rushed a sorority as a sophomore.

I LOVED college!  Soccer was never going to be a profession for me.  I was passionate about it and very talented, but I knew it wasn't forever.  I'm sure many of you can relate with sports you may have played competitively in high school.  It's hard to give up because you spent so much time and money being the best you can be, but my time was up.  It was time for me to move on to my next phase of life and start thinking about careers and where the next happy hour was going to be  :)

Here's some highlights of my time in college:

My junior year of college, I was a debutante in New Orleans.  Do any of you have debutante balls in your areas?

{I attended lots of out of town football games and the basketball championships that the Gators won!}

I made such amazing friends in college after I quit soccer.  I would never change it for a thing.  After graduating school in 2007, I moved to Atlanta and had a blast with friends from college.  I loved Atlanta and had so much fun meeting tons of people from schools all over the South East.  We all had at least one thing in common: a love for football!!!

It's been fun taking a walk down memory lane! You're amazing if you made it this far.  I'll stop here for today!   I hope you enjoyed #throwbackthursday!

  19. Love this!! You haven't changed at all since college! I can't believe you were such a good soccer player- I think you made the right decision by quitting. I have some girlfriends who played competitive college sports and then felt really lost after college and felt like they missed out on the real college experience.
