Five on Friday | Life Lately

{ONE}
Our New Routine with the Kids in School
It's so nice having the kids in school together this year.  They both go three mornings a week and I've been amazed at how well Madelyn has done her first month.  She's been such a Mama's girl and although she cried when I first dropped her off for the first 2 weeks, she know acts like a rockstar and is happy to go into class.  Brody loves his new teachers and classroom and seems to be doing great. We are struggling a bit with nap time lately (he is 3 years 3 months now) and seems to want to skip naps more times than not.  I've always been the Mom to pretty much not give them any choice (you.will.nap.), but I think we are getting close to this ending.  He comes home from school wired.  What age did your child stop napping?

Brody Potty Training
I never went into this too much while we were attempting potty training because we really didn't have a style or follow a program.  We waited until he was ready around his 3rd birthday in June and then started giving him some M&M's as a reward for going on the potty.  He was doing quite well with the pee pee, but would only poop in his pull up during nap time or bedtime.  It took a good month of potty training before he took his first poop on the potty (August 8th!) .  He was so scared and we actually told him that his poop would feed all the fish in the sea and they would starve if he didn't.  It finally worked.  He still was scared for the first month or so and we could tell he was definitely holding it in.  I would say we are now fully potty trained (he's even pooping on the potty now by himself and wiping), but still wears a pull-up when he sleeps.  So that's the deets for those that care :)

Weight Loss
Ya'll....send me your tips.  The struggle is real.  My weight hasn't budged in MONTHS.  It's so frustrating and every time I get on a good routine, something knocks me down and I stop.  I'm trying to get more cardio in because I know that helps me, but I've been having knee problems and need to be swimming but I just don't like it!! I did the Bikini Beach Guide last spring and loved it, but it ultimately hurt my knee too.  What are your secrets??

Reader Survey
I posted a quick reader survey this week that many of you were so kind to fill out and any of you that haven't, I would still love to hear from you!  It's always wonderful to get your feedback because as much as I love to write for myself...it's really about all of you!  You are the ones that I want to inspire, connect with and share my life with!  So dish it out...Here's the survey.

A quick Trip to St. Pete
I am sneaking away to St. Petersburg, FL for one night this week which I am so excited about.  One of my bestest friends from college lives there and we will be doing lots of fancy wedding planning which I'm so excited about.  I also got to catch up with my childhood bestie.  Such a treat!

Have a great weekend!!

  1. I'm not much of a swimmer either, and the best cardio workout that I've found, besides running and spinning, is using the rowing machine. It is much gentler on your joints and knees, and I love that it combines cardio with resistance training. It burns tons of calories, and I've found that it also adds definition to my abs and arms. Cheers, Laura

  3. I personally had the best success with a Beachbody at home program- p90x, 21 Day Fix, Insanity, etc, there are only a couple that I actually think work and I'm a technically a coach even though I only do it for the discount, lol- but I read all your posts so if you want 25% off and some more info feel free to email me at mag.dohler@gmail.com

  4. Personal trainer!! I did it for a long time including leading up to my wedding 3 years ago and through my whole pregnancy! Anytime Fitness downtown is wonderful. My trainer Courtney Lepinay is moving soon but she could get you started then hand you over to Lorenzo who is wonderful too. She is also amazing with nutrition and does meal plans. For me I needed to be held accountable and I wanted someone to train me that knows what they are doing so I can see results.

  5. Yay for potty training success!! M&Ms and waiting until our daughter was ready worked like a charm for us. It's so nice to only have one in diapers :) My daughter quit napping right before her 3rd birthday... RIP the afternoon nap! She does quiet time in the afternoons when her brother naps now. We're figured out a good routine, but I definitely miss those 2 hours in the afternoon. Maybe quiet time would work for Brody?? It's such a tricky age for naps because my daughter is up until 10:00 if she does nap so we do our best to avoid naps these days.

  6. That is awesome that you got Brody potty trained so fast! I feel like we will never be fully there, lol! Can you make him do quiet time in his room instead of napping? I need to get back on that track asap with G!

  7. Have you tried cycling? In college and before I got pregnant I was taking spin classes 3-4 times a week. Now I'm trying to do it 1-2 times a week. Seriously the BEST workout ever and good for your knees!

  8. I always have the best success when I stick to these five food groups and NOTHING else: complex carbs, fruit, veggies, lean protein, and healthy fats. It involves a ton of cooking, but it became routine and the weight slides off every single time... like a pound a day at least the first week. It's nuts! It's hard to stick to because CARBS! SUGAR! DAIRY! But it definitely does work, and you don't have to exercise!
